Meditation is simple - if we allow it to be. In fact, many Spiritual Gurus and Master Teachers feel the simpler the better. Though often a very simple spiritual practice, meditation is both significant and crucial to Spiritual Awakening/Enlightenment. One of my favorite Master Teachers, Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith of the Agape International Spiritual Center, teaches “Meditation is the bedrock of your soul’s evolution.” Meditation awakens the gifts of God within us: peace, joy, love, wisdom, strength, forgiveness, vibrant health, creativity, trust, self-love, love for all life, compassionate observance rather than judgment, precious awareness of Oneness with God and all things in God, and the ability to co-create Heavenly fulfillment in all our endeavors. Living Heaven right here on Earth is absolutely possible, and a simple daily meditation practice lights the way. I personally recommend the following: Meditate twice a day for ten minutes (longer if able and interested). Begin each meditation by stating your intention. Perhaps the intention is something like “I choose to be aware of my oneness with God and all things in God,” or “the peace of God is pouring over me now,” or “my highest-Self is a perfect Child-of-God, I choose to be aware of the truth of my divine nature now.” Once an intention is stated, quietly breathe. Stay focused on the breath, let any thoughts come and go without judging them or willing them away, rather be aware of thoughts which come up but do not focus on them. Let them pass naturally as you stay focused on the breath of life which unites you and all things in and with God. If you become distracted by your thoughts, gently remind yourself to come back to your breath. Again, thoughts are fine - they will come up and they can be very distracting. However, the key is to empower yourself to not be controlled by your thoughts. Accept that some thoughts are wonderful, and some are much less than wonderful, though they are a product of your human-ego-mind, not your Divine-Mind. Your Godly Consciousness is always perfectly peaceful, perfectly loving, perfectly joyful, perfectly wise, and perfectly aware of your oneness with all life, no matter what thoughts the human-ego-mind is entertaining, and no matter the emotional response you may be having to your thoughts. Training yourself to keep coming back to your breath when your thoughts distract you, helps you become aware of the higher-level of your consciousness which is anything but controlled by your thoughts. It is the level of your consciousness which is a compassionate observer of all that is happening in your life, and is, at the same time, aware of the bigger picture. It knows the ego’s mistakes become lessons which help us to spiritually evolve, for it knows God truly does take lemons and makes lemonade. Being all forgiving with our ego-human-dramas, our higher-Self knows our true spiritual identity is Eternal, Perfect Joy and Love. This level of our consciousness knows that if not in this lifetime, then in some future lifetime, all of our souls will awaken to the Godly Spirit and Heavenly living waiting patiently within us. Meditating twice each day for ten minutes at a time, setting your intention, then focusing on your breath, coming back to your breath if distracted by your thoughts, not suppressing your thoughts - simply not focusing on them, continually focusing on your breath instead, this will align you with your higher-consciousness. This will awaken the gifts of God within you. It takes practice however - so please be patient with yourself. Also, please considering adding continual breath awareness to your daily living. For my personal spiritual awakening, a daily practice of ongoing breath awareness has been equally significant and crucial. Please see my category and post on “Breath Awareness.” It is like a living meditation, in that not only during meditation time, but throughout the day, you keep coming back to an awareness of your breath. Again, please check out the Breath Awareness post, for it truly goes hand in hand with this meditation practice. Lovingly and gratefully shared, Melissa
